Sticking with Vivelle-Dot®

It can be hard at first to get into the habit of taking a new medication. It may take repetition over time before it becomes a part of your routine. But it's very important to take Vivelle-Dot as prescribed. Suddenly discontinuing therapy can cause symptoms to return within several days. You should always talk to your doctor, even if it's over the phone, before stopping any prescription medication.

When taken twice a week as prescribed, Vivelle-Dot:

  • Releases estradiol (a form of estrogen like your body's own) directly into your bloodstream
  • Helps control moderate to severe hot flashes, night sweats, and vaginal dryness and atrophy associated with menopause
  • Helps reduce the risk of postmenopausal osteoporosis
  • Achieves effective hormone levels with smaller total doses than pills. This does not mean that patches are safer or more effective

If your moderate to severe hot flashes, night sweats, and vaginal dryness and atrophy associated with menopause are not being controlled to your satisfaction, talk to your doctor. He or she can determine if the dose should be adjusted. You and your healthcare provider should talk regularly about your estrogen therapy. Together you can create a partnership to ensure you are making decisions that help you reach your treatment goals.

The dose and length of estrogen therapy is based on your individual symptoms, health risks, and treatment goals. It's important to schedule follow-up visits with your doctor every 3 to 6 months to discuss your progress.
