Information on Estrogen Therapy (ET) |
|
Hormone therapy, including estrogen therapy, is an effective treatment for
moderate to severe menopausal symptoms,1 such as
hot flashes and night sweats. These symptoms are caused by decreasing levels of
estrogen during menopause.
Estrogen therapy is a hormone therapy treatment program in which women take estrogen orally,
transdermally (through the skin) or vaginally to treat certain postmenopausal
symptoms associated with these reduced estrogen levels.
You should thoroughly discuss the individual risks and benefits of estrogen therapy with your
doctor before taking hormone therapy.
ET Options
Several prescription hormone therapies are available.

Vaginal ring – about 2 inches in diameter and is inserted every three months by
the woman.

Emulsion – applied on both thighs and calves on a daily basis.
-
Gel- applied on one arm (wrist to shoulder) on a daily basis
-
Pills – taken daily by mouth.
-
Patches – applied twice-weekly to the abdomen, below waistline.
The Vivelle-Dot Difference
Vivelle-Dot is an estrogen-only therapy and does not contain
any progestins. For women interested in the source of estrogen in their therapy, the estrogen in Vivelle-Dot (estradiol) is
chemically synthesized from a plant source. This does not mean that Vivelle-Dot is safer or more effective than other hormone therapies.
The neat, petite, discreet Vivelle-Dot patch is easy to apply
and comfortable to wear. Just peel, stick and go.
Vivelle-Dot has been proven to effectively relieve moderate to severe
menopause symptoms1 and help prevent postmenopausal osteoporosis. If you use Vivelle-Dot only to prevent osteoporosis from
menopause, talk with your healthcare professional about whether a different
treatment or medicine without estrogens might be better for you.
